Movie was an absolute banger. Adam Scott killed this one. I went into the movie knowing nothing about it except that one super creepy poster and what I got was something completely different, something that wasn't so much a horror movie as it was a character movie. The writing around Bauman (Scott) is so phenomenal that the scariness and unsettling feelings the picture brings gets washed away every time the screen is not dark. When it's dark though it feels claustrophobic - set design really plays a huge part in the tension you feel when watching. I think some of the witch stuff could have been a bit scarier; it's just an ugly old woman. The actual idea of the hotel having a lot unknown monsters behind its walls is more scary then the witch. I think at some parts I was like ok what is happening but everything kind of pointed towards the main character and his backstory in a great way, to the point where I could ignore the sudden switches in movie style. When I say that I mean some parts looked like cheap horror and the other parts really meshed together well, the parts where we see other characters. All in all great film
